History
The circuit opened in 2009, with Sebastian Vettel winning the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. A major redesign in 2021 removed slow sections and introduced a sweeping banked corner, reducing the layout from 5.554 km to 5.281 km. The revised circuit hosted the 2021 championship finale in which Max Verstappen secured his first Formula One drivers' title.
