About

An undulating permanent circuit beside the Santerno River, known for technical corners and limited runoff in several sections.

History

The circuit opened in 1953 and held its first Formula One race, a non-championship event, in 1963. It hosted the Italian Grand Prix in 1980 and subsequently became the home of the San Marino Grand Prix. The deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in 1994 prompted substantial safety changes, including revised Tamburello and Villeneuve corners.
